The PCV (Positive Crankcase Ventilator) hose is attached to the intake to burn the fumes vented by the engine. Oil comes along with the fumes. If you have the stock air box, there should be a clear tube under the air box to catch some of the oil. Drain the tube and wipe out the throttle with a dry cloth. If it has a paper filter, replace it.
I changed the oil following the shop manual's instruction and added 3.9 Quarts of new oil. I started the bike, warmed her up, shut her down, waited a short while for the oil to settle into the pan, and checked the level. The level is still showing high. It is well above the factory marked upper limit on the dip stick.Way too much info for a guy who just wants to put the best-priced, quality oil in his bike. No one seems to agree. Oil Change. Not trying to step on any toes here, the manual is very specific on type of oil you can use on that particular bike. I have the 2003, 1800 R/S. I put synthetic on my first oil change, made the clutch slip. Went back to straight motor oil, had to change it again after 50 miles to flush out the synthetic. PS.

I add Moly paste to my final drive when changing the oil. I also have my VTX on the jack and turn the wheel so it gets 5 to 6 ounces of oil. Runs cooler..
