Evidently I was shifting at way too high rpm even tho the motor was not sounding like it. On the 1500, the service manul says a special tool is need to pull the spark plug tubes, but you can fashion a tool out of the rear axle nut and unscrew the tube. I'd bet the 800 is similar. 2003 vulcan 800 classic. This bike shows 8300 miles on it. It has an aftermarket exhaust system and i have no idea if it was properly jetted or not to match the exhaust but my father has had this bike for a couple years now and has never had a problem till now. Of course, cannot totally rule out a wiring issue. Would take apart the kill and starter switch and clean contacts. Shoud be at least 12.6 v. Start the bike, rev it to 3,000+ rpm and again check the voltage across the battery posts. You should see a minimum of 13.5 v and would like to see 14.0 - 14.5 v but your new battery will need time to fully charge unless you took it home and charged it, which is a good thing to do. Like.
